TIPS to determine your water service line material:

• Locate the water service line coming into your building (typically in the basement or crawlspace, mechanical room, garage, or in a wall panel).
• If the pipe is covered or wrapped, peel back the cover to expose a small area of the pipe, about 6 inches, to see the color of the pipe.
• Use the metal tool to scratch or scrape through any corrosion build up so that the color of the pipe may be clearly seen. 
• Use a strong magnet and the color of the pipe to identify the material of the water service line.
